Chattogram, April 9, 2026: A day-long awareness workshop titled “Green Assembly” was held at Nasirabad Government High School with the aim of promoting citizen awareness on urban waste management and environmental responsibility.
The event was jointly organized by The Climate Watch, with technical support, and Green Technical Education and Volunteering (G-TEV), bringing together students in a series of interactive discussions and practical activities focused on environmental conservation, waste management, food waste reduction, water preservation, and energy efficiency.
Through the workshop, participating students gained practical insights into adopting environmentally responsible habits in their daily lives. Organizers said the growing misuse and wastage of food, water and electricity are placing severe pressure on the environment, while urban waste and drainage challenges demand greater civic awareness, particularly among the younger generation.
As part of the programme, students were encouraged to engage in home gardening and were provided with various vegetable seeds to inspire green practices. A hands-on demonstration on producing compost fertilizer from waste materials was also conducted, helping participants understand sustainable waste solutions in practice.
Chief Guest at the event was Roksana Akter, Head Master of the school. Special Guest was Md. Iqbal Azam Chowdhury.
The programme was coordinated and implemented by Md. Tauhidul Islam, Assistant Engineer (Mechanical) at GPH Ispat Limited and Organizing Divisional Head of G-TEV, alongside Anwar-Us-Saqline, an official of Abul Khair Steel Products Limited. Others present included Md. Shahriar Islam, Mashiur Islam Raju, Md. Sakhawatur Rahman, Md. Shahidul Islam and Mohammad Omar Faruk, among others.
Welcoming the initiative, Head Master Roksana Akter said such programmes go beyond textbook learning and inspire students to play an active role in protecting the environment in real life.
