Micron

A micron, also known as a micrometer, is a unit of length equal to one millionth of a meter (0.000001 meter), or equivalently one thousandth of a millimeter (0.001 mm). It is commonly used to measure very small objects or particles, including particulate matter in the atmosphere. For context, particles that are about 2.5 microns in diameter are roughly 1/30th the width of a human hair, and these fine particles can penetrate deeply into the lungs when inhaled. The micron is an essential measurement in fields such as biology, manufacturing, and environmental science to describe sizes invisible to the naked eye.
